- Make a list of people and companies you will need to change address with:

- Decide what household items etc, you may not need anymore, you have enough time to organise a garage sale or you could give them to charity. A house that is simple and tidy is more appealing to buyers when being sold.
- If moving plants or garden tools etc. from state to state; check what permits are required and any preparation for the move.
- 'Collect any important papers (passports, insurance, will, photos etc) and put them in one place.
- Make a list of items being packed and clearly label each carton and the room that it belongs too or whether it is to be stored.
- If renting, give 30 days notice to your landlord to ensure they are in the loop.
- Set your date for garage sale and arrange advertisement.
- Repair and clean all home décor and furniture ready for your move.
- Contact your removal company to confirm booking and discuss any queries you may have.
- Confirm move with the real estate/ landlord/ vendor at your new location.
- Continue packing and labeling boxes.
- Hold your garage sale as planned.
- Arrange your re-direction of mail with Australia Post.
- Water fountains, children's pool and ponds should be emptied, cleaned and packed ready for transport if necessary.
2 weeks prior to moving
- If you are opting to move yourself and are storing with MiniStor, call Coates Hire and arrange your discounted Pantec or Trailer.
- Plan your movements for moving day and prepare specific dates for your removal company and storage provider, which includes your travelling arrangements and emergency contact numbers.
- Terminate all delivery services at your old address
- Arrange disconnection and reconnection of:
- Drain fuel from mowers and lawn edge trimmers before putting them into storage.
- Organise to transfer your house and contents insurance to the storage facility or your new address. If storing, you can take optional excess insurance with MiniStor.
- Consume your frozen foods and/or foods that will not be able to be packed to move to new residence.
- Organise bus passes required from your new residence.
- Collect items from dry cleaners and return any loaned videos or library books.
- Plan to use the last food remaining in your fridge and then defrost refrigerator and / or freezer.
- Pack a box of essential items you will need upon arrival to your new home, such as, kettle, coffee mugs, snacks, medicines, first aid kit.
- Plan for special needs (eg, pets, children,) prior to, during and after the move.
- Consider having children and pets looked after on moving day.
- Water all plants to be moved the day before moving.
- Dismantle swing sets or play gyms etc.
- Ring power and gas companies to organise last meter readings.
- Finish packing those items you do not need on moving day.
- Confirm your truck or trailer rental with Coates Hire and also confirm your reservation on your shed with MiniStor.
- Do not disconnect the phone until the day after you move.
- Drain hoses from washing machine.
- Pack personal luggage. Carry jewellery and valuable documents yourself.
- Keep your cleaning equipment at your old residence for your final clean.
- Inspect your home for items that may be left behind.
- Ensure the items needed first at your new residence are clearly marked.
- Await for the arrival of the removalists or collect the Pantec from Coates Hire
- Ensure beds are dismantled before removalists arrive.
- Give last minute instructions.
- Load the transit vehicle.
- Do not leave the house until the movers have left. Double check the furniture loaded with movers.
- Make sure the gas and power meters have been read.
- Turn off all switches and water heaters, lock all doors and windows.
- Meet your movers at MiniStor, or if you hired a truck, unload, then return the vehicle as soon as your done.
